After founding and successfully operating GA Michael & Company in Seattle in 1984, he became a partner in Carlson Advisors of Minneapolis where he was the managing partner for their West Coast Division until it was acquired by Falco Sult.

Gerry’s clients are primarily in the graphic design Industry, as well as other areas of the manufacturing sector facing rapidly changing markets and technologies. He provides an objective, independent perspective along with recommendations and advice based on nearly 40 years of experience.

A nationally recognized expert in the graphic design industry, Gerry is a frequent author, speaker, and seminar facilitator for various industry groups across the country.  He has published numerous articles in industry and trade publications, as well as general business periodicals such as the Puget Sound Business Journal and Media, Inc. He is active in the Printing Industry Financial Executives, and served on the advisory committee of the Printing Industries of America Presidents’ Conference for 2017.

In addition to his business experience, Gerry has been very involved in community, social, and healthcare organizations as well as various community, business, and youth programs for many years. As president of the board of the Epilepsy Association of Western Washington, he led their merger with the Eastern Washington Epilepsy Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of Oregon to form the Epilepsy Foundation NW. Now based in Seattle, he has led as their board chair for several years. He also served on the national board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of America and was a member of the Neurological Vocational Rehabilitation Center of the University of Washington advisory committee. In 2005 he was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award from the Epilepsy Foundation NW.

Gerry also was an adjunct faculty member at City University of Seattle for nearly ten years, specializing in graduate finance in the MBA program.  For the final three years of his tenure he was designated “Master Instructor” for the Seattle Campus of City U. A lifetime resident of Seattle, he is a graduate of the University of Washington and holds a Master’s Degree in Finance from City University.  He has been licensed to practice public accounting in Washington, Oregon and California, and is also a Certified Management accountant.
