February may be the shortest month of the year but once it is over, we have greater hope in knowing that Spring and daylight savings are right around the corner. So long as there is sun, we'll be smiling!
As it is so short, the end of the month can sneak up on us even faster than usual, which means that we're that much closer to tax filing and crunch time.
By now, you should have everything that you need to file your returns. If those have not reached you or have somehow bypassed you, please contact us and we'll make sure they get to you right away. Our next hard deadline is March 15 - both for filing a corporate return or extension, and our firm's due date for receiving personal/Form 1040 tax information that we can guarantee completing by April 16.
As we mentioned in last month's newsletter, our office hours are extended this time of year to better meet your needs. Even if you don't have all of your documents together, now is a great time get on our calendars before the 15th of March.
In this news edition, we invite you to explore the opportunities and events that we have going on behind the scenes, and would greatly appreciate a few seconds of your time to complete our latest client poll regarding communication. We're always looking for ways to help plug you into the community, keep you educated, and better serve your needs, so we appreciate your time as you stay informed of our happenings. We'll look forward to sharing the results with you next month.
We are proud to recognize our own Carey Homan for recently earning her CPA credential. Carey joined our crew last summer as a Staff Accountant and brought her great work ethic and job experience so we hope you enjoy working with her as much as we do. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (with an emphasis in Accounting) and a Master of Accounting degree.
Please join us in celebrating this professional accomplishment and much deserved success with her.
Also assisting us this season is a Falco Sult alumnus - Stephen Reed. Those of you that have worked with Stephen know of his can-do-anything attitude and aptitude so we're happy to have him on board with us during our busy season this winter/spring.
If you thought "March Madness" was just about basketball, think again!
Have you ever wanted to host your own company food drive, but either couldn't get around to it or didn't know where and how to start? If so, then March Can Madness may be just the campaign you were looking for, and at the right time for you now that the holidays are over.
March Can Madness is a creative food drive campaign where businesses and organizations compete against each other over 4 weeks in a single-elimination bracket style format to see who can raise the most food for our local food banks here in North and East King Counties. As a participant, your company not only gets recognition as a community leader but name and logo recognition throughout the campaign's community pages and greater social networks.
To register, download and return the registration form prior to February 24th in order to have adequate time to promote your company and get the brackets created before March.
For more information about this creative campaign or how to participate, please visit Hopelink's Events page. Let the games begin!
Join Bruce Sult at the upcoming Redmond Chamber Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, March 21 at Matts' Rotisserie - Redmond Town Center as he speaks about key tax strategies for 2012. Members and non-members of the Redmond Chamber are welcome to attend ($30 members, $40 non-members).
For more information or to RSVP for this event, please visit their Events page online.
It never fails to surprise us when we see computer hackers in action this time of year. Emails in the form of "Customer Service Announcements" or "Important Messages" from your providers regarding your "accounts" are being sent to consumers left and right, to include false impersonation of various local, state and federal governmental agencies and offices to include the Internal Revenue Service.
The good news is that by now, we are now experts in determining what is real and what is not, so if you should ever question an email that you receive, please do not hesitate in contacting us regarding its validity. More than likely, it's some form of spam as email addresses are not required on financial reporting documents (unless voluntarily provided which we do not recommend).
It's always best to be safe than sorry so if we can help you be safer this season, please let us know.

We're bringing in a key advisors team - experts in finance, legal, accounting and planning - to share their insight and expertise in areas such as succession, retirement, estate, and/or key employee planning.
Following our discussion, we'll be hosting a wine and appetizer reception where you will be able to meet our panel members and ask them any questions that relate to you and your business.
